Director photo       Our musical director, Jennifer Johnson, has performed with the Yahara River Chorus since 1988. She has been directing the chorus since 2001. She is a Certified Director with both Sweet Adelines International and with the Barbershop Harmony Society. She has been directing the Badger Chordhawks (men's) Chorus in Janesville, Wisconsin since 2000.

She has had the honor of sharing the stage with her grandmother and mother in the chorus and in the past quartet, Madison Connexion. Currently she is thrilled to continue barbershopping with her mother, Linda. She works in Rock County as a dietitian working in public health, specializing in maternal and child health.

Jennifer is fortunate to have two four legged children: Dolby (miniature schnauzer), who has wrapped everyone in the chorus around his little paw, and Lilly (calico cat), whose loud meows can be heard on many learning tapes, especially the baritone. She would like to thank her dad, Kent, brother, Joel, and grandparents, Harriet and Ray, along with all of her barbershop family and friends for all of their support through the years.

Jennifer's comments on YRC:

"Having grown up with the chorus, I have seen many women who have grown musically and in leadership roles since joining this chorus. Many haven't sung since high school, others are currently singing with other groups. We will teach you how to succeed. The education you'll receive here will get you as far as you want it to. Having joined when I was 15, I never guessed that one day I would be directing such a wonderful group of women.

The Yahara River Chorus is a group of exceptional women of musicianship and friendship. After having competed for nearly 18 years, I have found one common thread in the years of successful performing groups. Believing. First of all believing in yourself. With this you are truly at peace with yourself and how you perform. Next is believing in the words and music. The overall performance is about involving the entire audience in the storyline of the song, whether it is describing an event, person, or emotion. The final is believing in each other. Truly trusting each person in the ensemble is the final key to complete the package. Each level of believing intertwines with the other. You believe in yourself, in your performance, and a member of the ensemble. Let the belief and the trust do the rest. It will. Come check us out at a performance or rehearsal. It will change your life."
